About Our History

Shree Shree Gokulchand Jiu was established approximately 350 years ago by Shrimat Raghunandan Goswami, the fifth-generation descendant of Shree Shree Advaita Mahaprabhu. Prior to this, the family deity, Shree Shree Radha Binod, was worshipped in a smaller temple at the Hatkhola Goswami and Madhyam Goswami houses. Even today, He resides in the current temple alongside Shree Shree Radha-Gokulchand.

It is said that while Shrimat Raghunandan Goswami was studying Sanskrit at a tol (traditional school) in Guptipara, he became deeply drawn to the idol of Shree Shree Gokulchand among the two deities established there. Upon completing his education, he expressed his heart’s desire to his Guru. To test him, the Guru blindfolded Raghunandan Goswami and changed the positions of the idols. Raghunandan Goswami passed the test by correctly identifying the deity.
